Reassessments in the Lake District
If you've already done your assessment but have been deferred on one or more aspects of the syllabus, you'll need to do a reassessment. You can return to your original assessor or choose a different assessor. You must allow a minimum of three months after your original assessment, and you must complete your reassessment within five years (if not, you will have to complete a full assessment course again). We are very familiar with current best practice, and we provide reassessments for Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Instructor and Climbing Wall Instructor in the Lake District. As with all our assessments, we see a reassessment as an opportunity for further learning.
Mountain Leader Reassessments
We offer two options:
1. Join a scheduled assessment course
Our Mountain Leader assessment courses almost always follow the same programme, making it easy for you to choose which part of the course you would like to join. Availability depends on how many candidates are booked on the course, to ensure we stay within the required ratios.
Cost: £100 per day for one or two days; £90 per day for three or four days, £430 for the full course
In addition there is a £12 admin fee which we pass straight on to Mountain Training
2. Book a day or more with Chris for private guiding
You tell us what you need to cover and we build the day around your agenda. If you need to cover night navigation, try to avoid May, June and July. Max ratio 1:4
Cost: see the Essential Info for the Lake District page. In addition to the guiding fee, all reassessments incur a £12 admin charge.
Rock Climbing Instructor Reassessments
We offer two options:
1. Join a scheduled assessment course
We split the programme into personal climbing and group climbing skills. You would need to have some flexibility, as the programmes for our scheduled courses are dependent on the weather, and we sometimes have to make a last-minute decision about which way round to do the days. Availability depends on how many candidates are booked on the course, to ensure we stay within the required ratios.
Cost: £100 per day for one day, £190 for the full course
In addition there is a £12 admin fee which we pass straight on to Mountain Training
2. Book a day or more with Chris for private guiding
You tell us what you want to cover and we build the day around your agenda. Max ratio 1:4
Cost: see the Essential Info for the Lake District page. In addition to the guiding fee, all reassessments incur a £12 admin charge.

Chris and I had a great time, I can’t believe how much information we managed to cover, while still being great company. I booked with you because of the great reviews and your YouTube resources. Best training/ assessment I have been on.
Edward Thomson, 1:1 Mountain Leader refresher & reassessment February 2022
I very much enjoyed the experience and came away inspired and motivated to continue my learning which is testimony to your people-centred approach. I have already recommended your services and I will continue to do so as I believe you offer something that I have not experienced with other providers. I will definitely be signing up for more of your Masterclasses in the future and in the meantime wish you continued success in your endeavours.
Paul Simpson, 1:1 Mountain Leader reassessment March 2022
Chris did a great job putting me at ease and encouraging me during my assessment, the event was even more challenging with mist coming in during the night nav session but Chris was very supportive and collegiate in his approach which resulted in a very positive outcome for me. Great guy, and I'd really like to do more training with him in the future. Great experience, can't recommend Chris enough!
Peter Matthews, 1:1 Mountain Leader reassessment August 2022
Prompt email response, helpful, strong testimonials, BMG cert is the absolute gold standard - and in particular the website comments about seeing the outdoors as restorative differs from many providers who (rightly or wrongly) are offering you a new cert to progress with. As the work I'm wanting to use my qualification for focuses around outdoors restorative trips for people this jived with me strongly. Going through the ropework on the syllabus and then going beyond it showing the methods and alternatives available to solve problems equips you with a spark of curiosity for wanting to go further and keep learning. The volunteers from the mentoring programme who were my ‘client group’ were all excellent, in attitude and skills, and their comments during the day made me consider whether outdoor mentorship was something I should look in to reach my goals. You can dream as much as you wish but without a framework to 'get there' it's always going to be an uphill struggle (excuse the pun!).
Tom Deakin, 1:1 Mountain Leader reassessment August 2022
I really enjoyed both the refresher and the assessment as I came away from both with better understanding and information plus a better understanding that decisions made in the hills are very much based on circumstances and not theoretical scenarios. Use your skills but be prepared to adapt.
Alastair Rushton, 1:1 Mountain Leader reassessment April 2023
Thank you to both Chris and Anne for making both the booking procedure and re-assessment such a positive experience. I would thoroughly recommend any courses run by Chris, confident in the knowledge that they will be professional, enjoyable and contain lots of new learning experiences.
Nick Hepburn, 1:1 Mountain Leader reassessment, October 2023
Found the communication very quick and helpful, felt like you cared! Was a really good day out and learnt ALOT - thank you.
Sarah Spencer, March 2024
Chris was friendly and made me feel very at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in his field and very good with people. Despite being nervous about resitting my night nav, he made me feel very at ease. It was also lovely to have Bobby along on the trip. I could not recommend Chris Ensoll enough.
Joolsy King, April 2024
Taking an ML assessment is nerve racking. Chris could feel my nervousness and made me at ease. It was a really enjoyable experience which I wasn't expecting. Chris made me feel at ease so that I could perform to the best of my abilities.
